Water damage does not occur all the time, but when it does do you know what to do?  Let me help outline some of the basics on the subject.

Though there are many situations of how water damage can occur, some of the most common examples of are typically caused by flooding, toilet or tub overflow, water valve leaks, holes in roofs, basement seepage, gutter clogs, and post-fire remediation.  When you undergo one of these scenarios it is best to act fast and not postpone any water damage cleanup.

  1. Turn off your water.
  2. Be cautious.  Do not walk in water where there are any active electrical outlets.
  3. Notify your home insurance agent of the situation.  You do not need to file claim, but it is still good practice to let them know what is happening so that they are prepared should you decide to file a claim in the coming days.
  4. Call SERVPRO of Ravenswood to cleanup the damage.  Our service line is maintained 24-hours per day, 7-days per week. 773-878-5200

SERVPRO of Ravenswoood  is called for the cleanup side.  Our work involves extracting water, cutting out drywall or wet walls, removing carpet and pads or flooring.  In most cases we can save hard wood floors if we called immediately.  Our crew will also move and pack up furniture and furnishings.  Next we clean and sanitize the affected areas thoroughly.  Then, we systematically setup drying equipment that creates a warm airflow to remove moisture.  Depending on the spread of the water damage the drying process may take 1-4 days.  During those days a SERVPRO trained technician will monitor and record moisture levels to determine the condition of the affected areas.  Lastly, we will remove and deodorize the area and leave it in a "ready-to-go" position for your contractor to began their rebuild process.

SERVPRO of Ravenswood documents and coordinates the entire job with your insurance carriers or property managers from start-to-finish.  Pictures and records are maintained in a cloud-based system and can be shared upon the client's request.
